For 250 families, printed wedding cards can run to tens of thousands of rupees once boxes, sweets and courier are added, while a digital invitation costs between nothing and a few thousand rupees. The common answer in 2026 is both: a small printed run for elders and the puja thali, and a digital link for everyone else. Use your own quotes in the arithmetic below.
These figures are illustrations, not quotes. Replace each with the number from your own printer and courier.
| Item | Illustration | For 250 families |
|---|---|---|
| Card with envelope | ₹80 each | ₹20,000 |
| Box with sweets, for 100 close families | ₹250 each | ₹25,000 |
| Courier to 80 out-of-town families | ₹100 each | ₹8,000 |
| Printed total | ₹53,000 | |
| Digital invitation, ShaadiMode Plus | Once per wedding | ₹2,999 |
The digital side is the same price for 50 families or 500. On ShaadiMode, the Free plan covers up to 50 families with no watermark, Plus is ₹2,999 once per wedding with a link per family, and every new account gets a ₹1,000 coupon once. Other digital options range from free templates you design yourself to designer-made videos and websites from about ₹600 to a few thousand rupees; our post on the best digital wedding invitation apps in India lists their prices.
| Printed card | Digital invitation | |
|---|---|---|
| Feels like | A gift you hold, often with sweets | A message you open on the phone |
| Elders' expectation | Many still expect one, in person | Accepted by most, especially from far away |
| Changes after sending | Not possible | Change once, everyone sees it |
| Replies | Phone calls and messages | Collected per person and per function |
| Reaches family abroad | Slow and costly by courier | Instantly, on WhatsApp |
Print 20 to 50 cards for the people who would feel left out without one: grandparents, the elders you visit personally, and the card for the puja. Send everyone else a digital invitation on WhatsApp, with their name on it. The printed run gets smaller, nicer and cheaper, and the digital one carries the timings, maps and replies that a card never could.
A printed card with a box, inserts and sweets is mostly thrown away after the wedding. A digital invitation has no paper, courier or packaging. For families who care about this, it's one more reason to keep the printed run small.
Not to most, especially when it greets them by name and comes from the family. For the elders who would mind, hand them a printed card in person and send the link too, so they have the timings and maps on the phone.
Count the people who would feel left out without one, usually grandparents, the elders you visit, the priest and the puja. For many families that's 20 to 50.
For most guests, yes, and especially for friends and family in other cities. Many families still hand a printed card to close elders in person, as a mark of respect.
From free to a few thousand rupees. ShaadiMode is free for up to 50 families, ₹2,999 for Plus and ₹6,999 for Signature, once per wedding.
