You can message any number on WhatsApp without saving it by opening a click-to-chat link, wa.me followed by the number with the country code, which opens a chat with that person. Make one such link per family from a spreadsheet, with their name and invitation link already in the message, and you can send 300 named invitations one tap at a time without adding 300 contacts to your phone.
A WhatsApp broadcast list only delivers to people who have saved your number in their own phone. Your parents' friends and distant relatives often haven't, and nothing tells you who was missed. A broadcast also sends the same text to everyone, so it can't say "Dear Sharma ji" to the Sharmas and "Dear Mausi" to your aunt. Our post on sending to 300 families covers the other pitfalls, family groups and forwarding.
WhatsApp supports links of the form wa.me/919876543210, the number with the country code and no plus sign or spaces. Opening one starts a chat with that number, whether or not it's saved. You can add text after it, so the message box opens already filled in. You still press send yourself, which keeps it a personal message from your own number.
Doing this by hand in a spreadsheet works, but the formula for the links is fiddly, and the message has to be encoded so spaces and Hindi letters survive. Split the list between the two sides of the family and it's an evening's work.
On every ShaadiMode plan, including Free, the guest list has a send button per family that opens your own WhatsApp with the message and that family's link already written in. Nothing is saved to your contacts. On Plus (₹2,999 once per wedding) each family's link carries their name and shows only their functions, you can bring the list in from a sheet or your contacts, and the invitation can also go out once from ShaadiMode's WhatsApp number to every family by name. On Signature (₹6,999) you can schedule that send for a date and time you pick.
The name does most of the work. After that, match the tone to who it's for, and keep the link last so the preview shows the names.
Write the greeting column in your spreadsheet the way you'd say it: "Sharma ji", "Mausi", "Rohan". It takes longer than copying names, and it's the part every family notices.
Yes. Open wa.me followed by the number with country code (for example wa.me/919876543210) and WhatsApp opens a chat with that number.
Much less than a broadcast or a forward. A message that greets the family by name, from a number they know, reads as personal. Keep it short and send in batches rather than hundreds in a few minutes.
Each family's send button writes their name and link into the message for you. See how sending works
